UHD - Small Business Management

Bio

I am originally from Houston and have lived here my whole life with seven other siblings, which for the most part just about all of my family lives in Houston with one of my older sisters that moved to Mexico.  As you can see I come from a large family, four of whom have already graduated from the University of Houston Downtown. I am currently a senior level standing student and will be the fifth one in my family to graduate from the U of H downtown.  I am happy to say that my expected date of graduation will be fall 2007.  I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, as you can imagine just like many students attending night classes at U of H downtown working towards getting my degree has been a long journey.

I work full time and go to school part time, my fulltime job is with Chase Bank and have been working there for several years now.    The main function of my job is customer service; I work with several clients on a daily bases with the majority of which are from our international clientele.  For the most part I service accounts with general issues from providing clients account information to handling fraud cases, plus internal controls like bank rules, regulations and compliance.

My main goal right now is to graduate and once I graduate use my degree to create more career opportunities which are not available to me without it.  I haven’t decided if I would like to stay with Chase after graduating but I am very much interested in exploring other lines of business outside of Chase bank perhaps just for a change something different.

With my hectic schedule between work, school and all homework I have found very little time to indulge in any hobbies but I do make a point to spend some time to relax with close family and friends.

I am interested in small business management because it is something that I can relate to, Chase bank has many clients that are small business owners and several of the clients that I work with are small business owners.   This course could also shed some light on some the issues that small businesses face that I am not aware of and could help me improve or develop my skills with managing those small business clients.
